Grading Checklist¶
- Identified that the CMOS battery replacement caused a full BIOS settings reset
- Recognized boot mode mismatch (Legacy vs. UEFI) as the immediate cause of boot failure
- Listed the critical settings to restore: boot mode, boot order, VT-x/VT-d, NUMA, power profile
- Used the CMDB documentation or a reference server to determine correct settings
- Changed boot mode back to UEFI and verified UEFI boot entries are present
- Re-enabled Intel VT-x and VT-d for KVM hypervisor operation
- Set NUMA Node Interleaving to Disabled for NUMA-aware operation
- Checked and restored other important settings: SR-IOV, C-States, Turbo Boost, power profile
- Verified the server boots to the OS after BIOS corrections
- Verified VMs can start with hardware virtualization re-enabled
- Recommended creating a BIOS profile export (SCP/racadm) for disaster recovery
- Proposed a pre-maintenance checklist that includes BIOS profile backup before hardware work
