Questions to Determine

  • What are the expected BIOS settings for this server role (KVM hypervisor)?
  • Is there a documented BIOS profile or configuration baseline for this server model?
  • Which settings are critical for boot (boot mode, boot order) vs. performance (NUMA, power profile)?
  • Can the BIOS settings be restored from an iDRAC Server Configuration Profile (SCP) backup?
  • Does another identical server exist that can be used as a reference for the correct settings?
  • Is the boot order correct for UEFI? Are the UEFI boot entries still present after the reset?
  • Were the UEFI boot entries (EFI System Partition) wiped when BIOS reverted to Legacy mode?
  • What other settings might have changed that are less obvious (SR-IOV, ACS, power management)?
  • Can racadm or Redfish API be used to script the BIOS configuration for future recoveries?
  • Should a BIOS profile export be created after recovery as a preventive measure?
