Questions to Determine

  • What bonding mode is configured (mode 0-6)?
  • Is the miimon or arp_interval parameter set for link failure detection?
  • Why does the interface still show "UP" when the switch port is shut? Is link detection working?
  • Are both interfaces actually enslaved to the bond, or did one fail to join?
  • Is the switch configured for LACP (802.3ad) when the server is set for active-backup?
  • Are both interfaces connected to the same switch or different switches?
  • Is the primary slave correctly set for active-backup mode?
  • Does ethtool show proper link status for both interfaces?
  • Is there a mismatch between the bond mode and the switch port-channel configuration?
  • Is NetworkManager interfering with the bond configuration?
