Questions to Determine

  • What does LLDP show as the actual connected switch and port?
  • What switch port was the server supposed to be connected to per the cabling plan?
  • Is the cable label correct but physically plugged into the wrong port?
  • Is the cable plugged into the correct port but the switch port has the wrong VLAN config?
  • Can LLDP data confirm both the switch name and port number to pinpoint the mismatch?
  • Is the wrong port already in use by another device, or is it an empty/default port?
  • Could the cable have been swapped with another server's cable during the install?
  • Is the DHCP server on the dev VLAN handing out addresses that could cause conflicts?
  • What is the fastest way to fix this: move the cable or reconfigure the switch port?
  • Are there other servers from the same contractor install batch that might also be miscabled?
