Symptoms: OS Installation Cannot See Disks

  • Attempting to install RHEL 8.8 on a new Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 V2 server.
  • The Anaconda installer reaches the disk selection screen but shows "No disks detected."
  • The server has 8x 2.4TB SAS drives behind a Broadcom MegaRAID 9560-8i controller.
  • A RAID 6 virtual disk was configured in the RAID controller BIOS and shows as healthy there.
  • Booting from the installer ISO via iLO virtual media works; the installer launches normally.
  • The RAID controller shows up in the installer shell when running lspci.
  • No block devices appear in /dev/ matching sd or nvme patterns from the installer shell.
  • dmesg in the installer environment shows the RAID controller detected but no driver bound.
  • The same ISO installs successfully on Dell R640 servers with a PERC H740P controller.
  • This is the first deployment of the Lenovo SR650 V2 model in the fleet.
