Symptoms: PXE Boot Fails - UEFI Mismatch

  • A batch of 12 new servers (Dell PowerEdge R750) arrived and are being provisioned via PXE boot.
  • DHCP offers are received successfully -- servers get an IP and a boot filename.
  • TFTP transfer begins but immediately fails with "Access violation" or "File not found" errors.
  • The PXE provisioning system works correctly for existing servers (older R640 models).
  • The new R750 servers are configured in UEFI boot mode (factory default).
  • The existing DHCP/PXE infrastructure was set up for Legacy BIOS PXE booting.
  • The DHCP server is ISC DHCP running on pxe-srv-01 (10.20.0.5).
  • The TFTP root is /tftpboot/ and contains pxelinux.0 as the boot file.
  • Network team confirmed the provisioning VLAN is correctly configured for the new rack.
