Symptoms

  • A PersistentVolume pv-data-warehouse-01 has been in Terminating status for over 3 hours.
  • A new PersistentVolumeClaim cannot bind because the storage class only allows one volume per backing disk.
  • kubectl delete pv pv-data-warehouse-01 was run but the PV will not disappear.
  • The original PVC that used this PV has already been deleted.
  • The team needs to reprovision storage for a new deployment but the old PV is blocking it.
  • The cluster uses a CSI driver for block storage with reclaimPolicy: Retain.
  • No pods are currently using the volume.
